Aline Remael is professor at the Higher Institute for Translation and Interpreting (Hoger Instituut voor Vertalers en Tolken, HIVT) of Artesis University College Antwerp.
Her main research interest is in audiovisual translation (intralingual and interlingual subtitling, subtitling for the deaf and hearing impaired, and audio description). She is currently involved in a joint research project (funded by the University of Antwerp and University College Antwerp) on live subtitling with speech recognition technology, in collaboration with the Flemish public TV channel VRT. She is also involved in audio description (AD) projects with the Belgian confederation for the blind and partially sighted (Belgische Confederatie voor Blinden en Slechtzienden). She is a member of the Transmedia international research group on media accessibility, and chief editor of her department’s journal Linguistica Antverpiensia New Series, Themes in Translation Studies (http://www.artesis.be/[...]). She has written extensively on AVT, has edited various collections of articles on the topic and is the co-author of Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling with Jorge Diaz Cintas (2007, Manchester: St Jerome).
